Connecting your bank
Flok can automatically confirm payments by securely reading your bank transactions through Akahu. It's optional, read-only, and you can switch it off anytime.
Akahu is New Zealand's open finance platform. We use Akahu to fetch transaction data from your connected bank account.
What Flok accesses
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Access type | Read-only. Flok can view information on the account you connect — it cannot move money under this connection. |
| What we read | Your account number and name, and incoming transactions (amount, date, description, reference). |
| Duration | Enduring (ongoing) consent — access continues until you revoke it, so payments keep auto-confirming over time. |
| Your login | Handled entirely by Akahu. Flok never sees or stores your online banking credentials. |
Why connect
When a flatmate or friend pays you back, Flok matches the incoming transaction to the right bill or shear using a unique reference, and marks it paid automatically. Without a connection, you confirm every payment by hand.
How to disconnect
You're always in control. To revoke Flok's access, open the app and go to Settings → Bank connection → Disconnect. This immediately revokes the consent with Akahu. We also revoke it automatically if you delete your account.
Your data
We only keep bank data for as long as it's reasonably required to confirm payments, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and delete it when it's no longer needed. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
